Chainsaw maintenance and sharpening will be covered along with model selection and accessories that fit specific tasks. Bucking and felling techniques will be covered in detail with focus on those sometimes dangerous situations that can occur during natural disasters. This class will address the how’s and why’s of cutting theory and practice while dispelling a few pieces of common wisdom by breaking down each technique to a level of simple physics. Hazards both seen and unseen will be identified and students will have the knowledge needed to safely work through most any obstacle encountered on the job or at home. Lastly we will look at alternate methods of managing different situations while employing tools and gear commonly found on fire apparatus and most garages.
